Their first gigs were sponsored by Birmingham's M&amp;B brewery and, consequently, the band briefly took the name the MB5, changing it soon after to the Moody Blues.    The band originally featured <a href=\"http://www.last.fm/music/Denny+Laine\" class=\"bbcode_artist\">Denny Laine</a> as lead singer and <span title=\"Unknown artist\" class=\"bbcode_unknown\">Clint Warwick</span> on bass guitar,  <a href=\"http://www.last.fm/music/Ray+Thomas\" class=\"bbcode_artist\">Ray Thomas</a> on Flute, and <a href=\"http://www.last.fm/music/Graeme+Edge\" class=\"bbcode_artist\">Graeme Edge</a> on drums. Mike Pinder was the original keyboardist.<a title=\"The Moody Blues &ndash; Go Now\" href=\"http://www.last.fm/music/The+Moody+Blues/_/Go+Now\" class=\"bbcode_track\">Go Now</a> made No. 1 in January 1965. However, their subsequent release failed to match this success and Laine and Warwick left the band.
