The ni[Am]ght was mighty da[E7]rk so you could h[Am]ardly see,
And the m[C]oon ref[Am]used to s[E7]hine;
[Am]Couple sittin' [E7]underneath the [Am]willow tree; for [D]love[Am7] they [G7]pined.
The l[Dm7]ittle maid was [G7]kinda 'fraid of d[Dm7]arkness, [G7]so
She s[C]aid, [C/B] "I guess I'll [Am7]go."     [Am7/G]
The b[D]oy began to s[Am7]igh, lo[D]oked up in the [Am7]sky,
And t[D]old the moon his l[Am7]ittle tale of [G]woe. [G7]

"[Fdim]Shine      [A7]on,    [Fdim]shine on, [A7]harvest m[D]oon [Am7] up in the s[D]ky;
[G]I   [Dm7]ain't h[G]ad no [Dm7]lovin' since [C]January, [F]February, [C]June or [G]Ju-  [C]ly.  [C7]
[Fdim]Snow t     [A7]ime    [Fdim]ain't no t[A7]ime to s[D]tay [Am7] outdoors and s[D]poon,
So s[G]hine [Dm7]on, sh[G]ine on, h[Dm7]arvest m[C]oon, for [F]me and[Dm7] my g    [C]al."

I c[Am]an't see why a [E7]boy should cry when [Am]by his side
Is a g[C]irl he l[Am]oves so t[E7]rue;
[Am]All he has to [E7]say is, "Won't you [Am]be my bride, for [D]I   [Am7] love [G7]you."
But [Dm7]why should I be t[G7]elling you this [Dm7]secret w[G7]hen
I k[C]now [C/B] that you can g[Am7]uess? [Am7/G]
H[D]arvest moon will s[Am7]mile, s[D]hine on all the w[Am7]hile,
[D]If the little g[Am7]irl should answer "Y[G]es"! [G7]

"[Fdim]Shine      [A7]on,    [Fdim]shine on, [A7]harvest m[D]oon [Am7] up in the s[D]ky;

The night was mighty dark so you could hardly see,
And the moon refused to shine;
Couple sittin' underneath the willow tree; for love they pined.
The little maid was kinda 'fraid of darkness, so
She said, "I guess I'll go."
The boy began to sigh, looked up in the sky,
And told the moon his little tale of woe.

"Shine on, shine on, harvest moon up in the sky;
I ain't had no lovin' since January, February, June or Ju-ly.
Snow time ain't no time to stay outdoors and spoon,
So shine on, shine on, harvest moon, for me and my gal."

I can't see why a boy should cry when by his side
Is a girl he loves so true;
All he has to say is, "Won't you be my bride, for I love you."
But why should I be telling you this secret when
I know that you can guess?
Harvest moon will smile, shine on all the while,
If the little girl should answer "Yes"!

"Shine on, shine on, harvest moon up in the sky;
I ain't had no lovin' since January, February, June or Ju-ly.
Snow time ain't no time to stay outdoors and spoon,
So shine on, shine on, harvest moon, for me and my gal."
