Hotel Can't Afford Ya

Höfundur lags: Bethany Joy Lenz Sent inn af: Anonymous
[Bm]From a dark desert highway[F#], we pulled into the inn
[A]Rome called for a census,[E] I was from Bethlehem
[G]Up above from a distance[D] a star was giving me light
[Em]My wife was heavy ‘cause her child was due
[F#]We had to stop for the night

[Bm]So I stood in the doorway[F#] of Bethlehem hotel
[A]And I was thinking to myself "I hope to [E]heaven they'll give me some help"
[G]But they told us no-can-do[D] and they sent me away
[Em]"There's a place around the corner though[F#] where you both can stay"

[G]Welcome, but the hotel can't [D]afford ya
Such a [Em]lovely place but we're [Bm]out of space
[G]Ran out of room and the hotel can't [D]afford ya
It's the [E]time of year with the [F#]census here

[Bm]My wife was definitely gifted,[F#] that's what the Lord's angel said
[A]She was about to have a baby boy[E] while still virgin
[G]Spent the night in the barnyard,[D] cheap slumlord's rent
[Em]Some night to remember[F#], some night to forget

[Bm]So because of what happened I was[F#] grieving for my wife
[A]
I said "They probably haven't cleaned[E] in here since B.C. 65"
[G]Animal voices were calling for [D]straw and hay
[Em]Keeping you up through the middle of the night[F#] just as if to say

[G]Welcome, but the hotel can't [D]afford ya
Such a [Em]lovely place, but we're [Bm]out of space
[G]Holiday rush and the hotel can't [D]afford ya

[Em]What a nice surprise fo[F#]r your silent night

[Bm]He was born that evening and[F#] shepherds came that night
And they said[A] "We're all just visitors here[E] of the Holy Christ"
[G]And in an donkey’s manger, th[D]ey found the boy asleep
[Em]They started getting teary eyed[F#] so they went back to their sheep

[Bm]Last thing I remember there were[F#] wise men at the door
[A]They had a bunch of packages from the [E]place they were before
[G]"We're late," said the wise men "We had [D]problems Christmas Eve
[Em]We've been checking out your shiny ligh[F#]t all through the Middle East"
